Energy Logger Pro Introduction ![]() The HOBO© Energy Logger Pro™ provides a unique combination of measurement capabilities that make it the most cost effective logger available today. The versatility of the Energy Logger Pro allows the user to address a broad range of monitoring applications without having to purchase a toolbox full of different types of loggers. The Energy Logger Pro provides more features at a lower cost per channel then any other data logger!
The Energy Logger Pro uses optional FlexSmart modules and Smart Sensors to provide up to 15 measurement channels. There are three ports for FlexSmart modules and six ports for Smart Sensors. Any combination of Analog or TRMS modules can be plugged into the three FlexSmart ports providing up to six analog measurement channels. The six Smart Sensor ports are expandable, and with no modules plugged in, can support up to 15 channels. With three modules plugged in, up to nine Smart Sensor channels are available
FlexSmart Modules and Smart Sensors Analog Module
TRMS Module Smart SensorsFlexSmart Modules and Smart Sensors use a innovative architecture that makes set-up and deployment fast and easy. Each module and sensor contains a unique digital ID and serial number, which enables the logger to automatically configure the different measurement channels. FlexSmart signal conditioning modules retain the user's scale factors, which the logger reads to convert the raw analog signals into meaningful units of measure. Just wire a sensor to the module's pluggable screw terminal block, configure it once, and you have the convience of a Plug and-Play sensor! There are two types of FlexSmart modules available: the Analog Module for DC process signals and the TRMS Module for AC measurements. For assistance in selecting FlexSmart Modules and Smart Sensors for your application please call 800-450-4454.
Analog Module ![]() Analog Modules measure signals from:
The FlexSmart analog module has 2 independent input channels. Each channel's full scale input range is programmable for either 20 mA or 20 Vdc signals. The analog modules provides 12Vdc sensor excitation power and a user-configurable warm-up time. The dual input ranges, an accuracy of ±0.25% FS, and 12 volt excitation power makes it easy to connect to virtually any type of sensor or transducer.
True RMS module ![]() TRMS Modules measure signals from:
Smart Sensors Pulse Adaptor
Temperature (12-bit) Temp and RH (12-bit) Temp and RH (8-bit) More then a dozen different types of Smart Sensors, originally developed for Onset’s weather loggers, are available but we only stock the Pulse Adapter, the Temperature sensor, and the 8 and 12 bit Temperature and Humidity sensors. Smart Sensor are ready to use and do not require any user configuration - just plug them in and start logging. All sensor parameters are stored inside the Smart Sensor, which automatically communicates configuration data to the logger without any programming, calibration, or extensive user setup. Smart Sensors can be located more then 300 feet from the logger using various lengths of extension cables and couplers. A number of sensors can be connected to one Smart Sensor port on the logger by using wye cable splitters and extension cables to create a multidrop network.
Pulse Adaptor ![]() The Pulse Adaptor is used to count pulses from watt transducers, gas and water meters. These adapters count from 0 to 4093 pulses per logging interval. When used with a WattNode, be sure to set the logging interval to 15 minutes or less. Up to 15 Pulse Adaptors and WattNodes can be used to create a very low cost multi-channel submetering system.
Temperature (12-bit) ![]() The high accuracy 12-bit Temperature Smart Sensor is available in cable lengths of 8, 21 and 57 feet. Temperature accuracy is ±0.36°F over the range of +32° to +122°F, and the over all operating range is -40° to +167°F, at reduced accuracy. A stainless steel sensor tip and jacked cable assures reliable operation and is rated for immersion in water up to 122° F.
Temperature and Humidity (12-bit) ![]() The high accuracy Temperature and Humidity Smart Sensor is available in cable lengths of 8 and 28 feet. Temperature accuracy is ±0.36°F over the range of +32° to +122°F, and the over all operating range is -40° to +167°F, at reduced accuracy. Humidity accuracy is ±2.5 % RH from 10 to 90 % RH over the range of -40° to +167°F. Exposure to conditions below -4 °F or above 95 % RH may temporarily increase the maximum RH sensor error by an additional 1%; sensors can be used in intermittent condensing environments up to +86°F.
Temperature and Humidity (8-bit) ![]() The lower cost 8-bit Temperature and Humidity Smart Sensor is available in cable lengths of 8 and 28 feet. Temperature accuracy is ±1.3°F at +77°F, with an overall operating range of -40° to +167°F, at reduced accuracy.Humidity accuracy is ±3% RH over the range of +32° to +122°F; ±4% in condensing environments. The overall operating range is -40° to +167°F, at reduced accuracy.
Solar Radiation Shield ![]() When temperature and humidity sensors are used outdoors, they require protection from rain, snow or other direct moisture. A solar radiation shield keeps sensors dry and improves accuracy by protecting sensors from error-producing solar radiation. Onset's RS1 radiation shield costs less then the R.M. Young model that we stock and is recommened for cost-sensitive applications. It requires assembly and is more difficult to ship because it is three times larger and heaver then the R.M. Young model.
Other Key Components To complete your Energy Logger Pro system, HOBOware Pro software and an Interface Cable are required.
HOBOware Software ![]() HOBOware® Pro software for Windows provides logger management, data graphing and data analysis. It makes it easy to set up the logger and modules, retrieve data, produce professional looking graphs, and export data to Excel and other applications. Data Assistants and Real-Time Alarm Plug-ins provide advance data analysis and monitor/notification of out-of-range conditions.
Serial Cable ![]() The serial interface cable is required to connect the logger to a RS-232 serial port on the host computer. The cable is 6 ft. long with a 1/8" stereo phone plug to connect to the logger and a DB-9 F connector at the other end, which plugs into the computer's serial port.
Optional Accessories In addition to the following accessories for use with the Energy Logger Pro, other general-purpose accessories are shown on the Sensors page.
USB to Serial Adaptor ![]() If the host computer does not have a RS-232 serial port, a USB to Serial Adaptor is required. The adaptor has a DB-9 F serial connector, which mates to the loggers Serial Cable and a 2 ft long USB cable, which connects to a USB port on the computer.
AC Power Adapter ![]() ![]() The Power Adapter converts AC line voltage to DC to power the logger. The adaptor can be used to eliminate the internal batteries in applications that require more current and/or longer deployments than the logger's internal batteries can support. If the internal batteries are installed, and the AC power fails, the logger will automatically switch to battery power, similar to an uninterruptible power supply. Two different models of the AC Power Adaptor are available:
U-Shuttle ![]() The U-Shuttle provides convenient in-field data retrieval and relaunch capabilities. A 2 x 16-character display shows current readings and logger status, including battery level. The 4 MB non-volatile memory can store data from 7 full loggers. The U-Shuttle's requires a USB connection on the host computer.
Labels Labels are handy for keeping track of which sensors are connected to which module. They are also useful for attaching notes to the logger. These 1" x 1.5" white labels feature removable adhesive for easy replacement.
Tibbo Ethernet Adaptor ![]() The Tibbo serial to Ethernet adapter connects the Energy Logger Pro to an existing Ethernet LAN. Each logger requires its own Tibbo adapter and serial interface cable. Each computer on the LAN must have both HOBOware and Tibbo software installed. Only one computer at a time can access a logger. Other communications options, including remote wireless data access, are available. Call us at 800-450-4454 to discuss your communications requirements in detail.
